 Charts reflect the market place and how it is feeling and what it is thinking.

Their use goes back to the early days of trading. Price charts referred to by many of the legends of the industry. Stories of brokers that had to hide their charts in a bottom desk drawer, so the sales manager did not see them. Timing and Technical Analysis has always been criticized as a “seeing into the future,” like a fortune teller considered occult as reading tea leaves or casting chicken bones.

However, in the ’70s, when I landed at MLPF&S had its own Technical Department headed up by Robert Farrell, who taught his associates how to read the markets and listen to what it was saying based on charts.
